Digital Photography 3
Week 1
In our first session, we'll take the time to review the basics as well as any methods and niches that interest students in preparation for our shooting “in the field”. Whether it’s Nature, Street, or Portrait photography, the first session is a chance to get everyone up to speed and introduce some high-art concepts that may have been missing from your technical journey in photography. We’ll also finalize the locations for our field trips.
Homework: Practice methods learned in class and familiarize yourself with any new gear.
Week 2
FIELD TRIP (location TBD) - Our first session “in the field”. We’ll get a chance to put our knowledge to the test and learn how to create an effective series of images as well as finding and zeroing in on themes and story in our own work.
Homework: Review your work, resisting the urge to delete in-camera.
Week 3
In the third session, we'll be back in the classroom, reviewing and putting together our best images from our first field trip. We’ll briefly go over how editing and how it can bring out the most in your images, as well as inform your shooting process.
Homework: Practice editing your images
Week 4
FIELD TRIP – (location TBD) Our second session “in the field”. We’ll again practice themes and story through a series of images, as well as cultivating our awareness. This is a great time to solidify lessons learned through “mistakes” made during previous sessions.
Homework: Review your work, resisting the urge to delete in-camera
Week 5
Our final session is dedicated to reviewing and critiquing the images captured during the field trips. We will work on culling and presenting our image series’ to highlight the best of our work, learning to find emergent themes and stories. Development is a vital part of the process, even if your style lends itself to less editing. Students should leave with a solid foundation in how to present their work either online or in person.
Possible Field Trip locations: Celery Fields, St. Armand’s Circle, Downtown Sarasota, Selby @ Spanish Point, Selby @ Downtown, Ringling Museum
