Iphone Photography

Week 1

Let’s explore all that is possible with the iPhone camera and default camera app. We’ll go over it’s amazing technological capabilities as well as its limitations, then learn some practical tips that everyone should know when shooting with their smartphone.

Homework Assignment: Download at Adobe Lightroom Mobile or Google Snapseed. Advanced users can download Moment or Camera+ if desired. Take 2-5 photos to edit next class.

Week 2

Go over editing in preferred editing app. We will go through each slider/setting and then spend most of the class editing our photos with supervision. Compare and contrast photos before and after editing. Learn about RAW file formats and choose the file format that is best for you.

Homework Assignment: Practice shooting with the editing process in mind.

Week 3

Downtown field trip. We will meet at an agreed upon location, either Bayfront Park, Selby Library, or Payne Park. Use what we’ve learned and experiment with new perspectives.

Homework Assignment: Edit as many of your photos as you like. Be prepared to show at least 2 “finished” photo in class next week.

Review photos taken from the field trip and get some assistance editing using our preferred editing app. We will learn about burst mode, timelapses, and macro photography on the iPhone.

Homework Assignment: Watch at least one YouTube video listed below. Choose a photo by the end of the next class to be “uprezzed” into a larger format.

Week 4

Using what we have learned, we will have a short on campus photoshoot. We will challenege ourselves to choose one or two photos to edit to a near finished state and review. Finally, we will go over any lingering questions and issues in editing workflow to make sure you have everything you need to take fantastic photos.

Homework Assignment: Sign up for another class! :)
